     My goal is to establish a teaching philosophy in my classroom where students understand that they have an important role to play in society, and becoming  active members of their community is the first step to becoming  well  informed citizens .       Community is the foundation of my classroom, designed so students can feel safe to explore ideas and make mistakes without feeling shame or embarrassment from peers. Lessons should incorporate as much hands on experience and creation as possible, moving beyond the text and contextualizing the information in ways that students can grasp and manipulate, synthesizing information.       I plan to work towards simplifying the way I collect data, with the end goal of having students understand why their grade is what it is, and what steps they can take to improve it.
